And here we have my fourth Chicago Comic Con Print..! I drew a picture of the Swamp Witch maybe 11 years ago, and I tossed it up on DA when I started there, having nothing much else scanned. It’s been popular as hell ever since, so I figured I’d give her another shot. :-)
This is the first time I’ve really gotten into inking with a brush. It’s actually a lot of fun if you just start throwing ink around and not giving a damn. XD Ink on paper, colored in PS for that distressed EC Comics horror cover look.
Although to be fair, if it was an EC Comics thing she’d be half naked and inexplicably aroused by being surrounded by zombies, but I like the character and context better this way.
Next print will be Wonder Woman… I realized all 4 I have so far as original stuff. I’d like to have at least 1 character that might get recognized/noticed. :-P

Poison Ivy by Matt Erkhart

Poison Ivy by me:

Trying some different techniques here lately… This one is copics on bristol board, PC colored.

Prints will be available at my table at Wizardworld Chicago Aug 9-12.

Bekka the Wolf-girl

The first of my prints for Chicago Comic Con… This one is a very mixed media… Pencils, then ink, then markers, the colorized digitally.

So I freaking won it..!

While everyone else was off at C2E2, I went to the other comic convention going on this past weekend: Wizard Con Toronto. It’s a lot closer to home, and I was pretty keen to try out Tommy Castillo’s Wizard Drink & Draw with some comics pros. There were 2 categories: Amateur & Professional. Being unplublished, I entered as an amateur. After seeing what I was working on, they bumped me up to Pro.

And damned if I didn’t win the thing! I will have my own table at Artists Alley at the Wizardworld Chicago Comic Con August 9-12, 2012. Catch me there!

As an interesting aside, Amy Acker (of Angel, Dollhouse, etc. fame) happened into the bar where we were doing our Drink & Draw and she came over and sat down with me for a minute, watching me draw. She liked my work, too. She was so nice! Very sweet person, absolutely fantastic. My wife and I stopped in at her booth the next day before leaving the Con and she recognized us, commented on my drawings. It was really great.

Weeeeird night for a small-town Georgia-boy. But a damn good one!

Blink, of AoA X-Men fame…

Drawn by me… Pencil on printer paper, nothing fancy. This one’s for a friend of mine, with a costume redesigned by her.

Making My Own Comics..?

I’ve been in contact with a writer who seems pretty cool. So far I’ve seen a script 17 pages long that I’d LOVE to draw, but just don’t realistically think I can squeeze in currently. That said, she’s agreed to send me something a bit smaller scale I can sink my teeth into. More to follow!

Also, I’m taking a brief hiatus from my DC2 work to focus on other project(s). The crew there is absolutely fantastic, but fanfic of copyrighted characters is not generally a marketable commodity for those of us who don’t OWN said copyrights. Go figure. If you love the DCU (especially pre-New 52 feel), check them out!

And, because I drew it and I haven’t uploaded much here lately: John Stewart, GL Badass of the DC2!

Another one by yours truly, Matt Erkhart. pens, copics, in a pretty light (30-lb?) sketch book. I used a little white paint this time, which isn’t something I do often… Think I like the look, though, so I’ll probably do it again.
Mary Marvel is always fun. They really put her through the wringer at DC in the last coupla’ years, and I’m not even sure what her status is in the DCnU..?
Anyway, looks like my scanner is working again for the moment! Woo-hoo!

Batgirl Art Thread

gailsimone:

In honor of ALL the Batgirls, I’m starting this thread. Please add links to fan art, convention sketches, whatever, anything that HASN’T appeared in an actual comic, that is Batgirl art.

And please no porn, if you don’t mind, okay?

Any Batgirl, just link your favorite Batgirl art! Thanks!

You Got it: LINK!

This is mine. I mean, Wonder Woman is DC Comics’ of course, but the art is all me. The costume was redesigned by Boris of the DC2 (she’s Earth-5’s Wondy). The pic is a cover to a DC2 fanfic issue (DC2 Leenk!). The fine folks at the DC2 put out a score of issue-length fanfics every Wednesday, with COVERS!
In this issue, Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor seek out the Chariot of Fire!
I’ve been drawing for them for years, and since I just finished this one, I figured it was a good way to get my drawing-blog going. I’m new to the Tumblrz.
